He married MARY LOWRIE (also LAURIE) on 21 Aug 1829 in Keir, Dumfrieshire, Scotland. She was born in 1803 in Galloway, Scotland. 

David Hastings and Mary Lowrie had the following children: 

i. JAMES HASTINGS was born in 1830 in Galloway, Scotland. He died in 1908 in Gosford, NSW, Australia. 

ii. WILLIAM HASTINGS was born in 1832 in Galloway, Scotland. 

iii. SARAH HASTINGS was born in 1836 in Galloway, Scotland. She died on 17 Jun 1838 in At Sea on board William Rogers. 

iv. THOMAS HASTINGS was born in 1838 in Galloway, Scotland. He died in 1838 in Spring Cove, Sydney Harbour, NSW, Australia.
