SARAH HASTINGS, daughter of James Hastings and Sarah Muirhead was born in 1806 in Neis, Glencairn, Dumfrieshire, Scotland. She died on 25 Mar 1876 in Ontario, Canada. She married ROBERT MILLIGAN in 1831 in Knockreich, Scotland. He was born in 1794 in Scotland. He died on 12 Feb 1869 in Ontario, Canada. 

Robert Milligan and Sarah Hastings had the following children:

i. JAMES MILLIGAN was born on 19 Sep 1833 in Maddie Castle, Kirkcudbright, Scotland. He died in 1911 in Ontario, Canada. 

ii. WILLIAM MILLIGAN was born on 24 Nov 1835 in Liggate, Kirkcudbright, Scotland. He died in 1887 in Ontario, Canada. 

iii. ARCHIBALD MILLIGAN was born in 1836 in Scotland. He died in on-board ship. 

iv. MARGARET MILLIGAN. 

v. SARAH MILLIGAN.

James Milligan Birth from the Old Parish Registers

Carsphairn, Kirkcudbrightshire

Robert and Sarah Milligan and David and Jane Hastings and their families arrived in Nichol Township near Guelph, Ontario about 1836. 

The 1851 census of Nichol Township listed Robert Milligan, a farmer, age 55 and his wife Sarah, age 45, both born in Scotland, with four children, James age 19 and William age 17, both born in Scotland and Sarah, age 11 and Margaret age 9, both born in Canada. Two other children Robert and Archibald had died in infancy. 

David Hastings and his wife Jane (Sarah Hastings Milligan's sister) had five sons listed on the 1851 census; William, John, James, David and Thomas, the last three born in Canada, and attending school.
